Medabots Spirit Ex Medal

A Kilobot's Ex Medal

An Ex Medal, also written as EX Medal,[1] known in Japanese as Death Medal (デスメダル), is a powerful Medal used by Kilobots in Medabots Spirit. According to Kam, a normal Medal from the Medabot Corporation has both emotion and power, but as the Ex Medals lack emotion, they have more room for power.[2] This makes them more obedient than Medabots, blindly following orders without remorse and being more destructive, making it easier for them to win Robattles. Also, as the Medaforce acts on the target's emotions in Medabots Spirit, the Ex Medal's lack of emotion makes Kilobots immune to the Medaforce,[2] but the combined power of two Medaforces can work against them.[3] However, their lack of emotions also makes Kilobots unfriendly and inflexible, not responding well to orders that are not related with fighting, like helping their Medafighter out of a dangerous situation that cannot be solved with attacks.[4]

In the episode Title Flight, Kam placed a red Ex Medal on his Medawatch to activate the self-destruction for a damaged prototype Kilobot. If the sequence is forcefully interrupted before its conclusion, it has a security function on it which makes it self-destruct in 100 minutes.

Neo Ex Medal[]

The Neo Ex Medal is an improved version of the Ex Medal that is used on Blakbeetle. It was developed to have intelligence like a Medabot while still retaining the power of a Kilobot, making Blakbeetle able to learn and become more versatile than other Kilobots. However, as Blakbeetle also had emotions, this Medal lacked the immunity against the Medaforce, although Blakbeetle is quite resilient against it.[5] Kam also attempted to make it able to use the Medaforce, without success.[6]

Of note, while the Medal itself lacks immunity, when Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal was temporarily placed on the more powerful Gryphon, its head part granted immunity against the Medaforce.[7]
