Medabot Vital Stats - Mantaprey

Medabot Vital Stats

In the episode Dance with the Mantis, the Rubberobo Gang use a Mantaprey to Robattle Koji's Sumilidon in their plan to try kidnap him at the costume party in the Rosewood Private School. Unfortunately, due to Koji's fear of insects, he ended up snapping and ordering Sumilidon to attack everyone in the yard, essentially wrecking the party. It wasn't until Karin kindly asked him to stop that he managed to calm down. But due to the havoc that happened, Mr. Referee declared that the Robattle was without a victor and thus no parts was earned or lost in this episode. Mantaprey did not do much during the whole episode, and is seen asking himself why he was called out to fight in the first place.

In the English dub, his model type is MTS-132019.

Etymology[]

A hypocrite is someone whose actions are not consistent with their claimed beliefs. A possible reason behind his name may be that a "praying" mantis is a predator that ambushes his prey, praying only in the name. Of note, hypocrite in Japanese is 偽善者 (gizensha), so the meaning of his name is not obvious in Japanese.

Mantaprey appears to be derived from praying mantis and prey. It is not related with manta ray.

The name of Mantaprey's parts appear to be a pun with kamakiri, Japanese for mantis. The head, Katatataki (shortened as Kataki in English), means striking the shoulder to relieve pain, like a shoulder message, possibly comparing the rattling sound from the fast strikes with the rattle from insects. His arms, Kamakubi and Kubikiri, respectively mean gooseneck (sickle shaped) and decapitation. His leg parts appear to be a modification of the aforementioned word kamakiri.
