The Medabots anime series is an adaptation of the first two video games from the Medabots series. The show is mainly based on Medarot 2, but also references backstory from the first Medarot. Produced by TV Tokyo and NAS and animated by Bee Train, the fifty-two episode series originally aired every Friday from 18:00 to 18:30 on TV Tokyo from July 2, 1999 to June 30, 2000. Medabots Spirit, a thirty-nine episode sequel to the series, was animated by Production I.G and aired on the same channel from July 7, 2000 to March 30, 2001. On January 2020, both became available online on Niconico.[1]
Both Medabots and Medabots Spirit were licensed and dubbed in English by Nelvana with some changes. This version originally aired in the U.S. on Fox Kids[2] and ABC Family[3] and in Canada on YTV[4] from 2001 to 2004. The dub is also available on Amazon Prime Video.
During the original airing, the Japanese version became available in VHS on 17 volumes, and the dub was originally released on VHS and DVD by ADV Films on 12 volumes. The dub was later released by Discotek Media as two SD Blu-ray discs in 2021. Discotek Media also released a subbed version of the original anime in a single volume in 2023.[5]
